I don’t know if anyone can help me with this. I just got back from my grandparents house and they sent home the lionel set my dad used to play with when he was a kid. Unfortunately, a couple years ago my dad brought the locomotive home with him to get it repaired and the guy who was going to do it swiped it and then claimed he never received it. I’m trying to track down a replacement, but I don’t know what model to look for. I have the matching coal car and caboose. I don’t know whether that would be enough info for anyone to pick out which locomotive to look for, but If it is, please let me know. Thanks.
Climberboy–that’s not much information to go on, considering the number of locomotives Lionel has produced. Do you know what year the train set was bought? Do you have any of the Lionel boxes that it came in? Since you have the tender and the caboose, that might be a start–especially the tender. I’d get on the net and find a Lionel dealer near to where you live, then take the tender in and see if the dealer might be able to match the locomotive to it. Some of the Lionel locomotives had specific tenders to match, others were just generic. But the tender would be a start, at least to my way of thinking. Good luck, hope you can match it.

Look on the bottom of the tender. There should be a number stamped on the bottom of it. Using that number, you could determine what the engine that went with it was.
