TSA presents Gold Standard Award to three rail transit agencies
Both a joke and a waste of the taxpayer’s money.
I suspect the award is for outstanding paperwork as opposed to actual performance. The real world performance of the Washington system during the recent subway fire tells an entirely different story.
It is on the order when, in Hitler’s Germany, the Gestapo made awards to various camps and agencies. And in the current situation, what awardee will either mock or refuse it?
I’d be ashamed if the anti-American TSA goons had anything to do with my railroad! Are they harassing old ladies like they do at the airports? My mother (81) refuses to fly anymore after the hassles of the perverts and wannabe Gestapos in the TSA. They’ve reduced my mother to tears and for what? No TSA at the trains!
Austin F. Larson, good words from you! I also wonder if some company has the guts to refuse the award.
Really? WMATA in Washington, DC?? With breakdowns, accidents, fires, etc.??? I guess the TSA doesn’t want to jeopardize all their free rides!
Government Agency congratulating government agencies
How is that possible given the recent events where a metro tunnel filled with smoke reportedly from an electrical arc that resulted in a passengers death? According to media reports the initial reponse took 20 minutes, included only 5 “first responders” who didn’t know there was a disabled train. Additionally an electrical circuit remained live due to a circuit breaker that did not trip. First responders radios did not work in the tunnel leaving them unable to communicate with train operations or other required responded other then via private cell phones. furthermore the car doors could not be opened by either passengers (apparently 2 screws have to be removed) nor by first responders as they didn’t have access to the emergency keys that can be used to open doors from outside the train. Both defects that were identified years ago after another accident. Sound like an award winning safety program to you? I feel so safe with TSA at the helm.
This is like Mr. Burns giving Homer Simpson the award for “Outstanding achievement in the field of excellence.” Please don’t let the TSA anywhere near our trains!
One morning as I approached the Lindenwold NJ station of the DRPA Hi-Speed Line. I noticed the appearance of black jump suit agents rifling through passengers brief cases and college student’s backpacks. I turned around got in my car and drove to work. They have not been back but I will not get wanded, frisked or questioned as part of my morning commute. That’s a deal-breaker.
