Hi: some days ago I installed a Tsunami K1000 in an RS2 Kato locomotive.
I´ve a Digitrax Zephyr command station ( limited…), but in “blast mode” I was able to program a lot of functions of this Soundtraxx decoder.
The problem is that it´s impossible modify the Master Volume (CV 128). When I send the code to the decoder there is a decrease in the lights intensity but no motor pulse (kicking). Interestingly, I can program CV 129 (horn volume) perfectly.
You may need a booster on the programming track to do that with a Zephyr. I’m NCE and do it OK with both my PowerCab and my PowerPro systems. Not sure about Digitrax, but one of the Digitrax experts will be along soon to help you with that.
There’s nothing defective with the wiring or anything. 128 is a special number - first bit after 0111 1111 in binary. This appears to be some sort of issue witht he Zephyr - it may be the firmware version. WHen you turnt he track power on and off and it says Po and a number - what number does it say? That’s the firmware version. And if you were able to program other CVs, it’s not needing a booster.
The same sort of thing happens when using a PR3, and trying to use the test run mode. The PR3 and Soundloader software are designed to work with Digitrax sound decoders, which use CV128 as a motor control, so that the PR3 can put the motor in neutral and still play all the sounds to test out the decoder. Of course if you try this with a Tsunami, it sets CV128 to 0 which turns off all the sound.
Try it in Ops Mode and see if it might not work that way. But it seems to be a known issue witht he Zephyr, CV128 EXACTLY is the only one that doesn;t work properly. If you have another throttle to plug in, it will work fine that way - such as a DT400 or DT402. Using a DT40x throttle results in more successful programming with the Zephyr - ever since I stopped using the built in throttle I have never had a problem programming any decoder.
Yes, the command station part of the Zephyr doesn’t have any problem with it - so if you use a DT series throttle, or JMRI, it all works fine. It’s just the built-in throttle part that has an issue addressing specifically CV128. CV129, no problem. CV127, no problem.
