Tsunamis in Stewart F-7s

I have installed several Tsunamis in plastic & brass steam rngines but never done any diesel installations.

I just bought some Stewart F-7A & B units. They are an A-B-A (newer Stewarts-not Katos or Bowsers) with a dummy B unit and both As powered and an A-A (Katos) set with both units powered. They haven’t arrived yet but I’m assuming there is enough room in the powered A for a Tsunami & speaker.

I was wondering if I could use the B unit as my location for the Tsunami and speaker(s) and run the motor wires to each A unit as well as run the pick up wires from both As and the B to the decoder?

Would one Tsunami be okay for the A-A set wired similarly?

For proper sounds, you’d need a decoder in each unit, but the effect will be there if one has sound. The BEST place to put sound is in a dummy B unit - there’s no real need to wire intot he powered A unit, STewart dummy units have the same metal wheels and trucks as the powered units, just with no gears. You cna solder wires to the sides of the trucks and have 8 wheel pickup/ With all that space in there, you can use a HUGE speaker and get great bass sounds. Litchfield used to have pictures of one done with THREE speakers including a crossover, two large speakers for woofers mounted to the bottom of the frame and a smaller tweeter mounted under one of the fans.

There is enough room in a powered A unit for a decoder and speaker as well, although not early the room the B has.

Use Digitrax DH123s (or any other motor/lights decoder) in the A units. Program both of the A units to behave exactly the same, then add a single value to CV29 in one of the A units.

I’d do one more thing and make it a 4 pin plug and socket - add pickups to the B unit. 16 wheel pickup = it will NEVER stall nor will the sound ever cut out

Again, the below link is exactly what you have. A unit gets the decoder, the B gets two speakers. There is a complete list of parts needed. Pickups on the B unit would be a help.

I do not have this Stewart model but a rectangular speaker might fit in the A unit and a rectangular in the B unit. Just a guess.

I have a PCM F3 with a speaker in the A unit and two speakers in the B unit. Sounds OK to me and others in our club.

Decoder in the A unit runs the motor in the A unit and motor in the B unit. The diaphragms hide the six connecting wires.
