My Walthers RTR 90’ turntable finall arrived yesterday. Having read the many posts here about it, I had no surprises. Thanks to all.
One question I wonder about is where to put the 4: square control box? There appear to be no means of mounting it to the facia or control panel if you have one.
I have thought “planting” it near the roundhouse and build a structure around it with two hollow chimneys. Rods through them could push the two buttons for CW and 'CCW. If the lights on the control box need to be seen, fiber optics could bring them to the side of the structure.
Canadian Tire, Walmart, Home Depot all carry small packages with Velcro stick-ons. It is what I use to hold that grey box and what I use to hang my two DT400 throttles on the face of the yard framing. You can find stips about 2" wide and 6" long, or in my case I purchased the disks. They come in pairs, on has the hook surface, the other the “hairy” surface.

Look at the back of the control unit. There are 4 screws(1 on each corner). There are 2 other mounting holes about half way down on each side.
I positioned the back half on the fascia, and marked the perimeter of the back half. Once that was done, cut out the space in the fascia and ‘test fit’ the unit. At this point you can ‘glue’ in place or make a bracket to attach it to using the 2 center mounting holes. My ‘bracket’ is a 6" piece of 1/4" ‘window screen parting stock’ with a 3/4" spacer on each end(the unit is 3/4" deep). A couple of self tapping screws holds it to the control unit, and it is removeable for later servicing. I just draw up the tension on the screws so that the unit is held firm against my 1/8" Masonite fascia. We have done this at the club, and I plan to do this on my layout as well.
The problem with your ‘hidden’ unit is that it will be difficult to ‘zero’ and program the stall spacing by pushing on the smoke stacks.
