Turntables In Tucson AZ

I’m looking for information regarding turntalbes in Tucson AZ. I’m reading a book by William D. Kalt III, Tucson: A railroad Town". In this book is a drawing of the yard in Tucson that shows two turntables.

I’m wanting to find the dates of operation. I live in Tucson and know for a fact the tables are gone.

While a look at the yards in the aerial images in mapquest shows that you are right, the turntables in Tucson appear to be long gone, you can see that they do have a loop of track to turn equipment at the North/West end of the yard still (I live in AZ too, so am aware that the north/south stretch of the I10 there is refered to as East/West). I would check with the folks at the Arizona Railway Museum in Chandler, AZ or the transportation museum in Tucson to answer your question.

Unfortunately, I don’t have an answer. However, living in Sahuarita (15 mi. S of Tucson), I feel I could legitamately bump this thread - because I’d like to know too![:-^]

There ended up being a fairly long discussion on this in the Prototype area of the forum. you might be interested in looking there!
