TV show question.

I was watching an episode of the show “Dallas” (some of the older guys here prolly know that show), and one of the main characters gets kidnapped, and in order to free him, one of the other characters has to act as a “go-between” and go around town and find stuff the bad guys left, well one of those places was right across some railroad tracks. This was about 30 minutes in, we get to see the tracks very well. Didn’t look like a main line, looked more like an industrial spur (probably so, the RR doesn’t want them to tie up a main just to film a little scene), as the rails were jointed and the rail heads were kinda rusty. The scene looked like it was filmed in LA or someplace, it was either SP or Santa Fe trackage. Anybody care to guess?

BTW, I watched the end credits and this episode was made in 1978.

You’re kidding, right? The chances of somebody knowing that little piece of obscure trivia are slim and none.

Well, some still might want to know.

I’m thinking it is one of SP’s old lines.

Well,I’m old enough to remember “Dallas” (the show, have never been there)
and that episode.
I would guess the S.P.!! Although “Hollyweird” does have it’s own “License!”

I too remember dallas.especially when JR got shot.thats when we had a derailment in Defiance.

Was that the “Shot” not heard around the “World”,but in Defiance,Oh.!?[}:)]

Good old Wikipedia…

Exterior shots were done in Texas until 1989, so the tracks in question are probably an obscure siding in the Dallas area. Had the episode been shot after 1989, I would have said that the tracks were an obscure siding in southern California.

If it was in Dallas it was probably the MP? To my knowledge in 1978 that, MKT, SP and SLSF were the only railroads in the Big D. Also in the opening credits when they show Reunion Tower there’s a train of hoppers moving at the bottom.[;)]

when dallas starts the pictures are of denver not dallas

well at least they both start with a “D” [:p]

Hmm…didn’t the Texas&Pacific also go through dallas?

Lets see…Dallas, late 70’s…The odds are pretty good that it was filmed on the Ventura County railway. They did a LOT of filming on that line. They (locomotives) got painted for filming on almost a weekly basis.

emd: What’s “prolly” ? ?

probably…
