I couldn’t resist posting this pic that I ran across today. I took this of my son a couple of years ago (he was 4 then) next to the Big Boy at the Museum of Transportation in St. Louis (Kirkwood), MO. Really puts the size of these behemoths in perspective, doesn’t it?
Mine, too (he is now 3.5 years old.) It’s “all trains, all the time” in our house. In fact, I think we’re going to go trackside for a while tomorrow and give Mommy a break.
Allow me to pass on my son’s thoughts about his father being an engineer.
Background: I am a professional petroleum engineer with over 42 years of experience.
Question and answer with my son (age 3)
Q: Where does your dad work?
A: Union Oil
Q: What is his job?
A: He is an engineer.
Q: What does he do?
A: He drives a train.
Now that he is 41 I think he knows what I really do for a paycheck. Even though I was the Cahirman of the Board of a railroad holding company and have had many cab rides (one of the perks) I have never touched the throttle. Given the opportunity a couple of times byt declined for safety reasons. Did toot the whistle once, though.
