Two Cases of INcredible Bad Luck...

Today’s Newswire…Twenty -three old man sticks head out to see if train is coming while standing on the edge of the platform. Is hit in the head by the on-coming train and hospitalized. This same guy did the same thing in Manhatten in 2002 and got hit in the head by the oncoming train…Stand TOO Close?

NS Freight train is cleared for a crossing of UP at Momence, Ill. While crossing the tracks, NS is hit in theid unit by UP train. The same NS engineer was involved in similar accident in 1999 at the Same crossing…The finding then was an engineer was blinded by the sun…Folks, two times…There needs to be a close look at this crossing. Both of these guys need to listen, because Someone is sending them a message.[#oops]

The two wrecks, same engineer, at Pence is quite a coincidence, but that’s about as far as it goes. IIRC, the NS train hit UP the first time, and it may even have been this engineer who had the problems with the sun. This time, the wreck was UP’s fault. Looking at the crossing itself makes no more sense than looking at the engineer’s record.

(That subway guy, on the other hand, ought to have what’s left of his head examined!)

When I was 3 years old on Christmas day my grandfather and I were pillow fighting and I took a header into the coffee table. Unfortunately the table had a wicked edge to it and my skull got busted open. I had to go get stiches in the local ER (without being put under, fun memory). Fast forward to next Christmas. Same day, same game (pillowfighting) and same coffee table. Now I have matching scars just below my hairline on my forehead. Believe it or not my parents still didn’t 86 that $%@# deathtrap of a table.

Reminds me of the joke in which a man is explaining to his boss how an accedent happened in which he lost a finger. " I was just feeding the material through like this and…WHOP,oops,there goes another one".

Similar to the Metra crashes on the old Rock Island line on Chicago’s south side earlier this year and about three years ago, only a few yards apart and with THE SAME LOCOMOTIVE on each train.

I’m begining to think that Rock Island is a disaster area. Due to all the unfortunite rail accidents in that general area.

Strange how long odds can catch individuals when they are least expecting it…

On the old TV show “What’s My Line?” there was a guest, who was a US Park Ranger who had been personnal struck by lightening on 5or 6 occasions. He said that he had gotten to the point that he could tell when he was about to be struck, by his hair standing up.[ due, I guess to an electro magnetic charge] I would not want to be know as the guy who seemingly attracted lightening strikes. Somewhat like the guy hit twice in the head by a subway train.

In Fond du lac Wisconsin there was an individual named Larry who had the misfortune of stubling out of the pressbox tavern on three seperate occasions and getting whhaked by frieght trains on three occasions. I believe he finally ran out of extremities.

Believe it or not, I think I know Larry.[^] IIRC, the last time he was hit, his family tried to sue CN/WC…yeah, right, good luck with that…

THE same driving trailer was in the consist of the trains that came off at Hatfield (disintegrated rail) and Great Heck (train struck a Land Rover that had driven off a freeway and onto the tracks).

Hugh, I think you will find it was the loco, 91123 which has since been renumbered 91132 at the end of the Class 91 sequence to break the curse.

It was the same Western Region/FGW HST set 2nd class trailers that was involved in both the Southall and Ladbroke Grove accidents which involved passenger fatalities so the split the set but one of the trailers was involved at Ufton Nervet accident last year (bad, I had to work on that one)

Also, a British Rail Clas 47 was renumbered to 47299 after it was involved in several fatal accidents and it is said to have had a Gypsy’s curse put on it. It has since been scrapped.

The topic subject is bad luck. So, please explain how a guy sticks his head out twice to see if his train is coming and gets hit in the head twice is bad luck? Sounds more like stupidity than bad luck. The only bad luck is that the train was there when the guy felt like being stupid. If he’s been hit twice then I wonder how many near miss’s that he has had?

Actually, the door faces Forest Avenue on the east side…the tracks run alongside the building on the west side…so “Larry” has plenty of warning…[:p]

No worse than a truck I drove. In 3 months here is what happened to it. First the left frt wheel bearing locked up at 65 mph, 2 the left side exhaust fell the heck off. 3rd hit by a squad car in CA destroyed quarter fender and damage to trailer. Last but not least hit a tire in the road and destroyed the bumper and mounts. Truck was 3252. which can equal 13 3x2 plus 5+2. Not the best start on a truck.

If I remember correctly , one time he was “bumped” from behind by the counter weight on the gatearm, he stopped crossing the tracks when he saw a train coming but neglected to stand clear of the crossing gates. I think he was hit first (on the head)by the lead unit hand rails , then the lead fuel tank, then the trailing unit brake cylinder, then the lead box car !!! This was after he lost a body part the first time !!! He would have one more encounter with a freight train after this !!!
