Once again, Amtrak proves that a bus line can do the same thing Amtrak does. And the bus line is turning a profit in the process.
And does the bus line use roads it constructed itself? Buses, trucks, and cars don’t come anywhere near paying their own way, despite gas taxes and New York Thruway tolls.
Jeffery, have you ever ridden in a bus?
There were torrential rains in the area that likely caused the sinkhole. What would you have Amtrak do, abandon the passengers? Airline regularly use their competitors when they are forced to cancel flights.
that is way a csx stack train was waiting for the signal at Sparrowbush NY at noon on June 28,2013 Got pictures
For many of the eastbound passengers on the 28th, the bus bridge used school buses for the Buffalo - Albany trip. The trip had already been delayed over two hours at Toledo, apparently due to freight congestion.
Silly Guse, aka The Troll, knows full well that the bus is far less comfortable than the train, doesn’t have a lounge car, a diner, or a sleeper, and has one tiny toilet compared to the train’s two small but usable ones per coach (more in sleepers).
I have not seen any other reports in this forum that dispute the “sinkhole” threory, but as one that witnessed the wreck about an hour after it happened from an overlook on the south side of the valley, Q364 obviously ran into the side of Q641 as Q641 was crossing over from track 1 to track 2 at CP 188 (Fonda, NY). This has already been confirmed as has the reason why Q364 ran a red signal.
Just got back from Worcester. There’s nothing quite like a five hour bus ride to induce a long sleep in a Viewliner. Too many Amtrak service disruptions on this trip for my liking, though. Not a good way to create repeat business, although the Lake Shore both ways was pretty full.
Where did the sink hole idea come from? The engines landed in a large open ditch that separates the main line from State Route 5 and has been there for as long as I can remember and I’m 62. That section also had a wash out next to Lock 13 back on June 13th when high water went between the dam structure and the road bed knocking out the line next to the river. They hauled shot rock and rip rap around the clock from the local quarries for several days but kept one line open.
Silly Guse, indeed! Go bother some other magazine. I agree with all here who have offered good reasons against your ridiculous and uninformed comments. My only concern is that responding to your argle-bargle might give you the intense jollies you crave. Go get a life. Somewhere else!
The sinkhole theory was an early report. An air photo of the wreck site and other supporting evidence show that the Q641 was crossing over from track 1 to track with a limited clear signal at CP 188. The Q364 had been calling clear signals up to automatic 193. Shortly after this, the Q 641 goes in to emergency at the point when the Q364 hits into the side of their train at the crossover.
TO MR DUDCO. THE STACK TRAIN WAS ON JUNE 29th AND IF YOU WAITED YOU WOULD HAVE SEEN THE ETHANOL TRAIN BEHIND HIM .
IF THIS WAS A SINK HOLE THE CARS WOULD HAVE BEEN UP IN THE AIR. PICTURES SHOW 1 LONG STRAINGT LINE OF CARS. NO SINK HOLE…
