Two (many?) Wyes

Balloon tracks are interesting, but how about wyes, or even better, overlapping wyes? Here is a map scan of Napa Junction, California, once operated by the Southern Pacific and now the California Northern. The tracks include a “normal” wye, connecting the lines to Fairfield (northeast track) connecting with the “outside world” at former SP, now UP mainline, Napa (northwest track), and Vallejo (south track), as well as a “scissors” wye leading to the former Northwestern Pacific (west line, now only so far as Lombard) with the Napa and Fairfield lines. This used to be a very busy place with tens of thousands of carloads of lumber coming from the NWP at the Schellville interchange, some miles west of Napa Junction.

Mark

The Great Western Rwy in Colorado used Wye’s in all of it’s towns where Sugar Beet Factories were located and even has one for a junction where the railroad branches off in three different directions.

That looks like a perfect Layout Design Element on its own!! Thanks for pulling that out!!
