These units were part of a nine unit lashup that saw seven engines go on the ground. Here they are being cut up in the old SP Colton Yard.
A sad end.

aw bummer. i havent even seen a GP60 yet. it’s sad to see some are already getting cut up now.
…well at least that’s one less SD60Mu to have to worry about running into
Well, at least it’s not being cut up due to old age.
It might be. Locomotives are fully depreciated at 15 years.
Hey Atmo…if you wanna see a GP60 check ou the MADWI or MWIAD. Its a local frieght from Adams, WI to Winona, MN. it operates over CP through La Crosse and gets on at Tunnel City. They generally have 3 former SP GP60’s on point. How do I know?..I used to be a conductor trainee on the MADWI. Don’t quote me that they are still there…but last time I was in the Adams area I popped in and they were still there. Good luck to ya if you go looking.
The link stated in BIline that they were wrecks.
My browser can’t get to the link, saying page is taking too long to respond.
I guess that GP60 was wrecked in an accident and deemed too damaged to repair? Probably a warped frame too.
That was my point as well. They are being cut up because they’re unsalvagable, not because they’re old.
The Rail Pictures.net web site is down. Hopefully it will come back soon.
And BNSF and ATSF lost 4 GP60Ms over the last 16 years too.
The last GP60M no longer on BNSF’s roster was #142, wrecked in a head-on colision at Gunter, TX in 2004.

Holy [censored]…that sucker is toast!
i can certainly try. i cant do much driving in the winter. but my parents let me go more places when the roads arent so icy
