I know that “Tyco” in today modeling isn’t anything to talk about, but I was just wondering something. Why did they make a “Sharknose” in Burlington Northern Paint scheme when they didn’t own any. At lease to my knowlede they didn’t. If they (BN) did, I would sure love for someone to confirm it. Why I am asking? Because this is the line I’m running and my cousin came in the house with one. I asked him where did he get that junk from although it looked good but I told him that it’s not prototype. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure I’m not. I told him the only lines who own these “Baldwin RF-16” was D&H and PENSSY. Someone correct me if I’m wrong

Take a look at IHC… they make a 4-6-4 for the B&O… I dont think that railroad owned any… but if a customer likes it they will buy it.

The BN did not have sharks but more than just PRR and D&H had them. You can add to that list B&O, EJ&E, NYC, and Monongahela. Some sharks were RF16s and some DR4-4-1500s.
If my cousin showed up at my house wanting to run Tyco trains on my layout I would have to take him out back and kick his [censored]. (sorry,had to be said)
Your right BN never owned a “shark”. But most people that would by Tyco products will not know the differance anyway.

Of course the Baldwin Locomotive Works (Later Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton) went out of the locomotive business LOOOONNNGG before the merger that created the BN. The last two went out of service in 1978, but one saw occasional service thru 1982. The last I heard, they were stored at the Minneapolis, Northfield and Southern.
The only HO scale B Unit I remember seeing is the one made by Tyco back in the '50’s when the bodies were still die cast zamac. These occasionally show up on Ebay and go for about $50 or more. I think Stewart also made an A Unit, but not sure about the B.
Monongehela bought some second hand from NYC.Two of these went to the D&H.
I have a sharknose SP in orange daylight colors! Don’t know what brand, I collect-don’t seem to have time to run them.
Tyco’s work great in the scrap yard.
Actually, the B&O did have 4-6-4s. They were all experimentals with water-tube fireboxes, and were not duplicated. And none of them looked like the model . . .

The demonstraters went to th EJ&E. I don’t know who was the lucky recpient of them when the J got rid of them.
As for boosters, I don’t recall Tyco making them, but then I generally don’t recall where I parked my car in the Walmart lot, so take that for what it’s worth. Rocco made As and Bs that were marketed by (old)Model Power. Ran really great until the plastic centers on the wheels slipped off of the metal tires. I saw a few PRR Sharks before my family moved from Chicago and fell in love w/ them. I mickey-Moused some chasis from Athearn components and have ABBA or ABA shells for B&O, PRR and NYC.
I believe there’s a wholesaler in NY or NJ that’s revived them although, w/ Rocco going belly up I don’t know how long they"ll be araound.
The four demos that went to the EJ&E were later sold to the B&O.
1205 and 1216 are stored unserviceable indoors in Escanaba, Michigan.
They had operated on the Michigan Northern and on the E&LS.
E R Models (who I think were an importer for Roco US-outline models) made a Sharknose A-unit - probably the best currently available (the drive system is excellent - big can motor, flywheels, diecast frame, all wheel drive and pickup). I think this must be an upgrade over the old Model Power version as mine doesn’t seem to have plastic wheel centres (there’s a plastic insulating bush between wheel and axle though). It looks pretty good running with a P1k C-Liner (both NYC - I’m claiming that it has the correct MU system fitted to work with other locos rather than Baldwin’s own-brand MU system, modeller’s license is a wonderful thing…).
They may have ran on BN predecssors, but not in BN paint scheme. And yes there is some Shark nose B unit out there. Try Ebay
