tyco train set from the 70's

I have a question about a classic Tyco train set from the 1970’s , the set in question was a canadain Tyco set and came with an engine with the number #5628 printed on it. the engine was mostly black with red on the front and black and white stripes down the side with CN printed on the front. I have no idea what cars came with tis set.
I have the engine and I am sure a duel container car with sea land printed on it came in the set and a brown reffer and a caboos of some kind and it came with a bridge and tressel to make a figure 8, but I have no idea what else came in this set, if any one knows anything about this set please send me some info.
if you have this set, I will pay top dollar for it, name your price. I have the engine and can send a pic if you need one.

It’s nice to see someone dedicated to a Tyco set. They were low quality “toy train” sets that didn’t last long. I still have some Tyco stuff that was my Dads that I wouldn’t trade for anything.Good luck in your search, but don’t get your hopes up…

well that is very discuraging, I did try the Tyco site with no respounce at all, I have search the Tyco archive with no luck and can’t even seem to find this set on e-bay, not sure what to do now??

Have you been here:

Remember that eBay isn’t a place with a steady inventory. The available merchandise changes daily. I’d suggest setting up an automatic search on eBay that will send you an e-mail when something pops up that matches your search words. I did this a few months back, looking for some Mantua passenger cars from the 1950’s. Sure enough, they pop up from time to time, and I was able to complete my passenger train after 40 years. Good luck.

thanks I will try that, now that I am know a little more about what I am looking at.
I still wish someone could tell me for sure which cars the set came with.

Tyco F units are pretty common. I’ve seen quite a few in hobby shops recently though. Penn Central (the green ones) seem to be pretty cheap right now. I too still have some Tyco stuff and I’m not parting with it either. My late grandfather gave me his Johnson Wax set some years ago. The set consisted of a Baldwin RF16 and several boxcars promoting their line of cleaners (Shout, Glade, etc.) I don’t think this particular set was very common, as I’ve only seen 2 others. Mine isn’t in the best of shape, as at the time, it was just a toy :frowning:

If you are trying to precisely replicate this set it may not be possible as sometimes they packed whatever they had laying around in sets to get rid of the cars so the same set may have had different cars packed with it.

wow, that is discuraging, other then the sea land car and the tressel and a red caboose I have no idea what this set may have came with, I think one car may have been a browm reffer and posably a silver orr car with virgina written on it I think it may have had a tanker car as well but I am not sure.
I thought this was goint to be a nice hobby but this getting hard and frustrating.
can any one help with this set??
