Hey Folks, I really need help from someone, I acquired a “Trains Inc.” U-50B and would like to repower this mess. Anyone with any experience or advise in this project. Not to try it is not the answer, *Ha Ha). Any help and/or information will be greatly appeciated.

IIRC, NWSL has/had re-power gear sets for the drive. Those old Trains Inc engines were real coffee grinders. Of course, Athearn has done both version of the B-B-B-B Turbine - maybe a U50 is in the future?

I would check this Yahoo Group and ask the question, as they have had a lot of good information on repowering locomotives in the past and the members are very helpfull.

This most classic of diesels(my favorite locomotive) I’m sure must have a Government grant for repowering. I hope you are not making fun of this most perfect diesel in history, although the non-knowledgeable will not agree, lets see some photos, before and after.
That sure was one strange looking locomotive so ugly it’s cool definitely post some pics
