U Boats?

Can someone tell me what happened to GE’s “Universal” series? I’ve heard various times that the U30C and the C30-7 were the same. Also, can somebody tell me what happened to all of the U Boats? I would like to know, because you never see em’ out there any more. You rarely even see the C30-7. Thanks,

Richard

Which type of U-Boats would you prefer, export or domestic? The difference between the Universal and Dash-7 lines was a lot of internal upgrades. I’ll leave the specifics to those who are more knowledgable in these matters.

Domestic U-Boats can be found primarily on Lake Superior & Ishpeming (U30C’s) and Transkentucky Transportation (U36B’s). There may be scattered small fleets in other locations.

Export U-Boats can be found in South Africa, Brazil and other locations. Some veterans may remember the U8B’s of Vietnam Railways.

Thanks for your help,

Richard

As they got older, they started to break down a lot. There are not many GP30 or GP35 around either. The C30-7 competed with the SD40-2, perhaps the best locomotive ever built for it’s time.

NS was still running U-Boats several years ago. I haven’t seen any lately.

Until recently, CSX ran U18B’s and U23B’s, in their MOW service. And they also had a U36B, numbered WL01 in the YN3 scheme(ex-SCL 1776 Bicentennial Locomotive)until about a year ago.

I have seen 1 C30-7 or similar in S.D. everything that is more than a few years old is an EMD.

Well, you never see U Boats, cuz they sucked. All there is to it.
