Probably just stretching her legs, so to speak. I don’t remember when the unit was last out in the open, but I would expect that it was longer ago than the E units. I’d want to run it from time to time, just to keep it operational.
Pardon my ignorance, but what type of loco are we talking about? My guess is the DD40AX, but I’m not sure.
You got it, Ty!
Wasn’t there a time in the 1990s when the UP was short enough on power that the 6936 and even the E9s were pressed into freight service? No long hauls for either models, just some short hauls, or something like that.
Speaking of the 1970s, I can recall being trackside in Pomona, CA. watching a UP train lead by a pair of Centennials and a DD35B in A-B-A formation. Now that’s railroading! [8D]
I’ve had the oportunity to see the UP6936 on the coastline a couple years ago. It was a real treat!!
Its back in No Platte as of last nite [:)]
never came my way. bummer. can’t wait till summer so i can actually go out and see this stuff.
yeah i cant even remember the last time UP used 6936 on freight.
while we’re on the subject of historical locomotives pulling modern freight, i have a “Lots and Lots of Trains” video and it has a clip of MILW 261 pulling freight. despite my constant searching on the net, i couldn’t find any info. anyone know anything about this? where, when, and why was it on freight duty?
Up date on the 6936 Rumor has it that it will be used soon bu Mr Wimmer head of Engineering will be usung it in special service soon Iwill keep you all informed as more information becomes available Larry
