UFO over layout...

Hi gang. I was just thinking last night about building a small N scale size flying saucer and suspending it on a thin piece of fishing line over to one corner of my layout. It seems to me that I actually saw a flying saucer kit a while back at one of the train shops I do business with, but it just so happens I’ve got everything I need on hand. I think I’ll use a gum machine prize container for the dome that I’ll cut down a bit and drill a small hole in the top of so I can thread my fishing line through and tie a knot to suspend it by. Then I’ll glue together two small diameter plastic plates, spray paint everything silver, glue it all together and there you have it, a cheap UFO… I might also see if I can come up with some lighting effects for it. It would really be cool if it had chaser lights running around the rim of it.

Sounds fun, Some lights would add some kool effects, you should place it over a farm field and have a beam of light going from the ufo to the ground , where there would be a cow. Cows are always the ones too get abducted.

btw i have seen tehm before in walthers catalogs, forget who makes them.

Here are your chase lights…

You mean something like this?

The pics are from my old HO layout, but I’ll probably do something like it on my new n scale.

It’s hard to see from the very bad pics (early digital camera) but there are three little aliens and the nearby crowd is about to get their memories erased by a Man In Black.[8D]

Since I make electronic effects boards now, I’ll definitely have some cool lighting effects on the new one.

When I was a kid back in the early 1970s, there was an older woman that lived on the outskirts of town that was kind of loony that claimed she had been abducted by aliens and all that jazz, but after she died, her family found her journal, and she said she’d made it all up just to get attention… I wonder just how many others there are out there like her ?.

Or how many REALLY have been…[alien]Take us to your layout.

Thanks Mr. Beasley. That’s what I was talking about. I may however go with an erie blue light… I’ll have to think it over for a day or two.

That’s pretty cool Mike. It really is…

“Hey loathar”. How’s it going ?.

Personally, I’m very skeptical about such things. I’ve seen what they call earth lights at night, but they’re nothing more than balls of plasma or static electricity created by tectonic forces deep underground - like the ghost lights of Marfa Texas.

I planned on making a small UFO and putting it on a hill in the corner behind some trees. Hid just enough that you don’t really notice it unless you know its there. Then of course the eiry green lights will bring attention when you press a button.

Busch makes one in HO, but I plan on making my own as well.

We have a UFO on the layout at the store. It’s an older toy with flashing lights. We have it suspended by fishing wire, and hanging below it is an outhouse with people inside. [alien]

YA very very true, Some people just want atention in life.

When I modeled in HO, I had a model of the Jupiter 2 from the series “Lost In Space” on the layout. I thought it looked cool. I would like to do this on my present layout but a 1:20.3 model of the Jupiter 2 would be HUMONGOUS.

Yea, I thought that too till I saw 2 F-16’s out of McDill Air force base chasing one. Got some serious threats from the base commander when I called to ask what was up. I’m pretty sure the Air force doesn’t scramble jets to chase balls of plasma.(this sucker made those jets look silly.)

Seeing is believing[swg]

How can you tell if a UFO is actually N scale? Wouldn’t you have to measure a real one?

I wonder if agent Mulder’s number is listed. [alien]

on30francisco , I loved Lost In Space as a kid. Check out these models: Jupiter 2. There’s a whole webring out there of guys who have built their own life-sized LIS Robot.

Steam Freak-Neat LIS models. I was a big fan too. Might want to check this one out.

http://www.billmumy.com/ He’s got a pretty cool site. He actually responds to his E-mails.

Bit of trivia-Did you know the ship was called the Saturn 2 in the ORIGINAL pilot movie? (they made 2 pilot movies)

So…will you weather your UFO? What color is space grime anyhow?

This is true loathar, but so far, other than the earth lights I mentioned earlier, all I’ve seen is a couple of satilites fall back through the atmosphere, a row of giant candle lights to the north early one morning that turned out to be the northern lights and one of the space shuttles coming back through the atmosphere on its way to land in Florida. But who knows, I may yet one day look up and see a silver disc with a domed top silently cruising across the sky…

Tracklayer

You know SteamFreak, that’s a good point. However, I’m going to go by the description that’s been given time and again by “those that claim to have seen them” as being a silver disc with a dome on top with a diameter of 40 to 50 feet. So, without getting overly technical with the math, I think I’ll just make mine about one and a half to two inches wide and a half inch high, and wa la. N scale UFO…

Tracklayer

Nope. It’ll be silver from head to toe and as clean as a whistle (when a whistle is clean that is…).
