I’ve come to realize that one of my Proto 2000 locomotives has an incorrect number board - i.e. NYC didn’t make a diesel with that number. (LifeLike: Bad dog!) I have an NYC Alco S1 #687. NYC S1s roster numbers started with #811…
How difficult is it to replace a translucent number board on a Proto 2000 so that it still lights up when the LED shines through the headlight? Is that something that would have to be scratch-built? Or, are there aftermarket number boards available for doing that? Thanks!
Uh oh.
I’m very eager to hear the answer, yet I have no idea myself.
I want to renumber a P2k S2/1 (don’t remember if they make a B&M S2, i really hope they do) as unit 1271. In the 70’s/80’s it served in Deerfield Yard, one of only 2 S Units left on the B&M roster.
you must be really a prototipacally modeler if you want the correct numbers for your locos!!! Yoshi-in N scale LL mkaes a Hobby quality Sw8 switcher in B&M colers. I am getting it for X-Mas to work 1 of my yards.
Prototypical, within reason. I like to be as accurate as I can - e.g. actual locomoitves and rolling stock in my era. But I don’t sit around and count my own rivets. It’s fun and more believable to me…
I decaled 2 F units in Cp rail colors. When it came to the numbers on the sides and on the boards, I picked 4 #'s that were in a row on the decal sheet. (they were in random order instead of the proper1234567…) They weren’t even close to the proper # series for F units in CP, but there’s NO WAY I could have gotten 4 seperate numbers applied straight. It bugs ME every time I look at them, but I know 99.9% of the people would never catch it. If I had to do it again, I’d use dry tranfers for the #'s.
(P.S.-I didn’t mean to tick you off on that other post)
