Uk engineer here

Hi, If anyone has any question’s please feel free, not saying I’ll know the answer but, I’ll try.

I have a question: I have read of UK network motive power being shipped over to continental Europe for operations there(I’m specifically thinking of Class 37 locomotives being leased for track construction work in France and Spain and a Mendip Rail(Foster Yeoman) Class 66 which was sent to the continent for aggregate train duties). When such moves occur are the locomotives towed through the Channel Tunnel or are the moved by sea?

Thanks in advance.

Yes I have a question, do you know what the Queen Mother carries in her Handbag?[#welcome]

A trackside handbook

In the past locos were moved by sea, but I think nowadays they are hauled thru the Chunnel. Diesel locos are usually included in the consist of a freigh train.

A while back when Siemens Class 350 Electric Multiple Units were being imported from Germany, I saw a pic of one of those in the consist of a freight train.

As well as exporting locos by sea, back in 1970 when a fire destroyed the Britannia bridge on the Chester - Holyhead line and several locos were stranded at Holyhead, most of the standed locos were moved by sea to Heysham.
