Unable to access MR forum

I am having trouble to access the forum. It takes me up to 10 attempts to the forum site. Getting into the trains.com pages is no issue, but the forum takes ages to load or is unavailable. Uploading posts is also much slower than in the old forum.

Am I the only one to have this issue?

Good morning, Ulrich,

I was able to get on by only having to log in twice this time. First time was on forum page, which sent me to customer service, where I had to log in again. Then I had to click the MR link, and then community (forums) once it came up. PITA but that’s progress I guess. I must be getting old, I still miss my '68 Ford XL convert. Gary

Ulrich, I could not access the forum at 0600 CUT and again at 0700. Now it seems to be fine.

I don´t want to chime in with the chorus of the ever pessimistic, but I do have frequent problems accessing the forum. Other pages are OK.

I have the feeling that the new forum server already has reached the limits of its capacity. Having to wait and try for up to 10 times to get access is certainly a big PITA. The forum is somewhat of a lifeline for me.

No, I am not a happy camper!

It’s all been working fine for me

No problems for me with access. [8-|]

Recently I, too, have noted that access to this particular forum (i.e. others outside mr.com work fine) varies over time. Most times I get an instant connection, but every once in a while there are intervals where the connection will take 30 or more seconds, or even not reach completion at all. I’ve found that trying again, often just 5 or 10 minutes later, will once again result in a normal connection…although I’ve seen the very slow connection situation persist for a hour or two on rare occasions, mostly in the middle of the day. This is the only site where I encounter this sort of odd situation.

The forum was completely inaccessible for me last night from 2300 EST to 0100 EST. After that it has been working fine.

I log on an average of 5 times a day, 6 days a week, and I have not had any notable problems either getting on or with performance, so there you go. Certainly there will be a few nanoseconds difference in elapsed time, but what is new?

I haven’t really had any access issues with the forum. But I have been having problems with refreshing. Sometimes the columns don’t line up right, everthing is squished over on the left hand side. And I have to hit F5 to refresh manually a couple of times for it to correct it.

Also getting weird characters at the bottom of some of my posts, not all of them.

I think they still need to work and tweak things out some more.

This forum is pretty slow loading due to lots of graphics even on a fast connection. I’m currently accessing it on a pretty quick connection and it takes under 3 seconds to load a page. You might want to check your ISP’s speed at http://www.speedtest.net/

My current speed reading is 286 mps download and 53 mps upload

Access - no problem. I’m still using the ‘Favorites’ link I set up two upheavals ago.

Loading time? Sometimes slow, sometimes almost instantaneous. Same as some other high-traffic sites I frequent.

Format? Sometimes changes are improvements, sometimes they aren’t. Many of these aren’t (but, not bad enough to have me run screaming into the night.)

First, I’d like to say hi again to you you, Ulrich. It’s been a couple of months since I’ve been on this forum and was surprised to see the new “look’” when I logged onto it. Other than having to retrieve my password, which I forgot, I had no trouble getting into this forum.

Hmmmmm. Only problem I have had was last night. Site appeared to off line. At least that is what the time out box said. This morning it was back up and running fine. Probaly a server problem.

Pages have been loading in 2 or 3 seconds ever since they completed the upgrade, so I have no complaints.

I am using Firefox 3.6.10 for Mac on a Mac G5 dual 1.8 processor running OS 10.5.8. Not exactly state of the art machine at 6 years old either.

I wonder if they took the server down to fix some things. It appears today I’m not having those refresh problems with the colums all out of wack.

And it also seems just a tad quicker.

Classic Toy Trains didn’t work last night 9-16 either along with Model Railroader.

I am have a laptop that I use just for train related stuff. Forums, database, photos and related information. It is a Windows 7 64 bit with IE version 8.

I had no problems with this forum before or after the upgrade. I have done little to the default installation and have zero problems and a lot of speed. Wireless connection, and cable modem.

Is it possible you picked up some unwanted bits of something that is effecting your computer? A strict firewall or a program like Symantics or McAfee that assumes you do not know what you are doing and protects you from anything and everything.

Had some bad experiences with both. To be fair it was many years ago but I have a long memory.

No problems for me, so far.

Nothin happening to me that would be any trouble

That happened to me at like 7 p.m. Arizona time. It wasn’t working at all, just the forums, website was fine but it works again now so no big deal.
