I created three catagories,:
1-Rolling Stock (Includes locomotives)
2-Structures
3-Other models
I tried to include sufficient choices to please everyone, feel free to include feedback or brag about your metropolis.

I’ve quite a few structure kits, a locomotive conversion kit, and a bunch of resin freight car kits, and a couple of sets of brass car sides all waiting for the day I have a layout to build them on. I also have a few 1/72 and 1/144 aircraft kits, and some 1/35 and 1/72 tank kits also waiting they day I’m ready to build them.
I usually buy and build on the same day, unless the kit involves painting or decals which need time to dry. Currently working on a Rail Power Products kit for a 56ft well car - can anyone advise which trucks to fit? according to the instructions they should be 70-ton trucks with 33 inch wheels, but I suspect there are many designs that fit this criteria - which one is correct for this car? I’m looking for trucks with metal wheelsets.
Well I’ve got a few hundred, at least, pieces of rolling stock to build. And I’ve got at least eight large cartons of unbuilt structure kits. Other models, well I’ve got lots of scenic detail things to be painted and affixed to structures or around the layout. Also some vehicles which need to be built and/or painted.
Enough to keep me out of trouble for probably the rest of my life, anyway!
I have unbuilt kits in 3 scales. Sometimes I think my hobby is kit collecting. Always have at least one going on the work desk. Might get caught up after I retire, if I don’t buy anymore. But of course I will.
Enjoy

I haven’t built any of my structures yet & I’m working on 1 locomotive & two Walthers 5 car stack trains.

Bad habit, starting a new kit before you fini***he one your working on. I have 8 partially completed kits. I think I’ ll work on one now. [:)]
I’ve got a couple of dozen uncompleted building and rolling stock kits–partially because I pick up those when I find them, and because I haven’t finished building my layout! I don’t like having to store completed structures in a drawer or somewhere because I don’t have a space on the layout for them yet–but I have a pretty good idea of what buildings will belong where once they are built, so when I see a good deal on a building I jump and plan on building it later.
I have unbuilt rolling stock because I haven’t built the yard yet.
I too tend to work on multiple projects at once–typically I’ll oscillate during a modeling session from one project to another while things are drying: while the glue dries on the building I’ll paint the engine, while the engine paint dries I’ll slap some squadron putty on this rolling stock, while the squadron putty dries I’ll go back to the building and add some details, etcetera.
Have some uncompleted projects, both structure and rollingstock. Mainly waiting on either materials or research info. Scratchbuild all my structures and large fraction of rollingstock. Have several unbuilt car kits which I bought in bulk to get a unit discount.

Over 200 unbuilt rolling stock kits, no building kits. A few bridges.
Couple of unbuilt rolling stock/cabooses, two structures, and a few vehicles. Many more built but “unfinished” projects are hanging around. They outnumber the unbuilt stuff at least 3 to 1.

I have more than 300 kits still to be built : a few buildings, locos waiting for handrails and couplers and a lot of freight cars. Some will be a lot of work like A-Line 5 unit well cars (3 different sets). I don’t have room yet to place them all anyway.

I have a bunch. Dont really know how many. But alas I am only 21. I will get them all built eventually.
You should have one other catergory. I ahve both structers(i can’t spell today) rolling stock kits but not that many. Probably 10 at the most
I build all my kits as I get them. I do have three structures I haven’t built yet, but that is because I have no space to put them yet. Now painting on the other hand…so little time, lol. I’m actually building a new painting booth so I haven’t got any actual painting done recently. But, I should be able to paint much more efficiently when I’m done. I’ve got roughly a dozen engines that are in need of painting into new liveries and probably 100 rolling stock that need weathering. That should keep me busy.

One large structure is still incomplete. There are a few unbuilt freight cars on my shelf as well as a few “crappy” cars that I’m reworking.
All together, more than 200 unbuilt kits - structures, rolling stock etc. One of these days I’ll get around to it. Maybe in my old age.
My unbuilt list includes: 18 hopper cars, 1 covered hopper, 2 cabin cars, 1 tank car, and 2 box cars, (including 1 craftsman type kit.)
3 locomotives need paint and decals, 1 loco needs decals, 1 Doodlebug needs paint and decals, 1 dummy loco needs paint and decals, 2 steam engines need decals, and several buildings await construction and finishing. I’ve also got an unbuilt model airplane and ship list.
I guess I better get busy and start building.[;)]
I counted my unbuilts and was surprised at the results. I have 5 unbuilt structures with 4 more planned, 23 peices of rolling stock, 2 locomotives (Handrails etc) and 6 undecaled cars.
Why I did not include undecaled cars in the poll??
At the moment I am finishing up a rework (ok, rebuild) of my Athearn Cow and Calf after lubing them for another year. Took me 20 years but finally started to do something about the awful glossy paint. Maybe some photos soon.
Maybe MR will be inspired by the fanstatic reponses to the poll! Thanks Folks!

I don’t build just collect but now that my favorite company has been sold again it’s time to sell off if things fall apart
Unbuilt locos about 200
Unbuilt kits (rolling stock) 700+ and growing
Built locos/rolling stock 50-70 enough to play with
Just having fun-PRICELESS!!!
