Can some one tell me if there is a standard under pass height for N scale? If so what is it, and where can I find that type of info for future reference? I am building a layout and using the pier block set, I have about 1 3/8" under the bridge. Is that enough clearance for most cars? Thanks Jon
Hey! Welcome to the forum!
Technically, according to the NMRA, railtop to overhead clearence is 1-21/32". I just go with 2" and that works well.
Here’s the NMRA spec sheet. You’re asking about “H”.
Thanks Philip.
Thanks for posting that, I was about to ask the same question. I just thought it was 2-1/2", boy was I wrong!
No problem,…both of you!
See the following page for a better explaination of clearances: http://www.nmra.org/standards/gauge.html
According to the page, double stack container trains are about 20’ 5" tall. In N-scale, that is 1.53 inches. Of course allow a little extra for equipment manufacturing tolerances. The previously mentioned 2 inches seems good.
Here is a very useful link to a site that will give you almost every standard, spacing and clearance you can think of in all scales.
