Ungluing CA

In the past I have used lacquer thinner and nail pilish remover to unstick fingers, take off excess glue and sometimes attempt to unglue something which didn’t turn out exactly as I’d liked. I was in Chicago last weekend and happened to stop in a nice hobby store in Berwyn. They were selling stuff called Super Solvent by Golden West. It is designed for CA. I was leery but I thought I’d give it a shot. So far I am very pleased with it. It does a better job of removing glue from fingers and skin than the others. It also does a good job softening up joints to unglue them. I thought I’d pass it along. It isn’t real cheap ($5.98 for 2 oz) but I have found that a little goes a very long way. It just takes a few drops.

Jeff,

I believe that acetone works on CA, too.

That’s why most nail polish removers work on it. Most of them contain acetone.

Acetone and similar solvents can be used for ungluing yourself, but should not be used on a regular basis for cleaning CA from your skin. These solvents are toxic and can be absorbed through the skin. Better to use an abrasive cleaner like Lava soap or just let it wear away even if it does not look all that good. I am not familiar with Golden West Super Solvent, but it also must have a strong solvent like acetone or worse, read the label before using on your skin.

I work for a company that makes CAs. We use acetone to clean up our CA messes.
