Unidentified switcher

Found this little switcher in an abandoned yard about two hours from my home. Can anyone identify it for me? I looked it over good but could find no Mfg plate. It appears to have one exhaust on the right side. Manufacturer? Model? Tonnage? When built? Type power?

Thank you for any information…Wally

It’s the old Milwaukee Road Deer Lodge shop switcher. It actually was electric.
It was Milwaukee Road built. It got it’s power from an extension cord, believe
it or not. It was used exclusively for hostling road electrics at the Deer Lodge
roundhouse. I have no data on build date, unfortunately.

Rick:
Thank you. It is now sitting in Harlowton, Montana.
What was the smallest gas or diesel switcher? I’ve seen the 44 Tonners.

Wally

That’s one neat looking little critter, I’m glad that someone found an answer for you. For samller than the 44 tonners look to the various industrial locomoytives made over the years by Whitcomb and Plymouth. Many used gasoline engines and weighed less than 25 tons. EMD made their model 40 locomotive for industries and railway shops as well. Not sure of it’s physical stats however. MDC just came out with an HO model of the EMD model 40 critter in the last year as well.

Rob

I WANT ONE!!! How much is that critter in the window?

Wow, that is a cute critter…gives me an idea for a project involving one of my extra 44-tonner power trucks and some sheet styrene!

Now that’s what I call a switcher ! !

It is the electric shop switcher. It was built by the Milwaukee using a truck from a scrapped FM C Liner. It has no diesel engine and gets it’s power from a ‘extension’ cable by the roundhouse. As mentioned, it was used to push/pull electric engines out of the roundhouse.

Kinda looks like somebody took a modern “comfort cab” and forgot to add the rest of the engine !!
