Union Pacific 4-12-2 Number 9000

Hi out there,

I am looking for drawings in scale HO from Union Pacific 4-12-2 Number 9000.

Thanks for every answer.[#welcome]

If you can find it Kalmbach Books in the Early 60s had a book called Motive Power of the Union Pacific With scale drawings in the back of nearly every class of U.P. steam power

Hello “oldsam,”

Unfortunately, “cnwfan51” was mistaken. “Motive Power of the Union Pacific” was published by Kratville Publications, not Kalmbach. However, there is an HO scale drawing of the Union Pacific 9000-class 4-12-2 in Kalmbach’s “Model Railroader Cyclopedia, Vol. 1, Steam Locomotives,” edited by Linn Westcott. It’s drawing no. 96 on pages 194 and 195, with additional photos on page 196. If I do say so, it’s a better drawing of this locomotive than the one in the Kratville book. The Steam Cyc drawing includes a separate elevation of the main frame showing the inclined arrangement of the center piston and crosshead and the inside connecting rod to the crank on the no. 2 axle.

The MR Steam Cyc is available in stores or by clicking “Shop” in the menu bar above.

So long,

Andy

Most of those Kalmbach drawings are a collection of drawings that appeared in MR so you might find one there also. However, many of the early drawings had some significant mistakes so if you can get one compare to a picture regularly to be sure nothing is amiss.
