Union Pacific 4500 hp Baby Gas Turbine

Hello, [#welcome]

could anyone help me.

I´ve seen in an advertisement a Bodyshell of a Union Pacific 4500 hp Baby Gas Turbine. This shell was made by D. Peters. Is there anyone who can give the adress of D.Peters or have an idea where i can buy it.

H0 Union Pacific 4500 hp Baby Gas Turbine Shell # 51. This is one of the 5000 shells made by D. Peters I believe during the the 1980s. The shells are one piece casting painted and lettered in UP colors with # 51.

Thanks

Peter

I’m looking at my printout of an on-line flyer for such a thing. I printed it out in January of 2003. I tried to visit the website just now but was unsuccessful. Here it is anyway: http://railway-recollections.com/resintrains/turbine.html

You might also try going the the Yahoo group “The casting list”. It appears that Pat Lawless, the moderator, might have been the person producing this item. You might join the group and ask.

Let us know what you find out. It looked like an interesting project.

Are you a member of the Union Pacific Historical Society? perhaps a classified ad in their magazine, The Streamliner, would get a response or two.

I happen to own one of the D. Peters Models 4500GTEL models. I got it back in the eighties. It is a rather rough cast body shell, but very well worth detail upgrades. It rides on a custom span-bolster underframe and uses Athearn AAR type B trucks. Originally it had an Athearn motor, but I repowered mine with a can. I seriously doubt that the manufacturer is still in business now. All in all, if one could be obtained, it would make a great model with the right amount of detail work.

I have UP31 an 8 axle which I believe is a Baby turbine. It lives in my “preserved loco” fleet (that’s my excuse for running it in the 80s). It’s a plastic proprietory model of some age but the detail isn’t bad. it would be worth detailing up if I ever got the time. It runs and hauls very well… IIRC it’s all wheel pickup and drive.

It came in a plain cardboard box so i would quite like to know who made it. I’m wondering if it’s Rivarrossi???

TIA

Here you go.

Hi, I’m not sure if this is of any value, but Lionel released a Veranda gas turbine in 2004/05. It’s about $499, and you can get it from Trainworld in NY.
