I have acquired an undecorated H15-44 loco and wish to paint it into Union Pacific colours but I am wondering what decals I need . so my question is who does 1950-1965 UP decals that cover these units? I thank you in anticipation.
Micro-Scale

check out www.rr-fallenflags.org you may find a few pictures there of what you’re looking for then as mentioned above, microscale decals…chuck
Once again thanks for your help the fallen flag site is of great use. I went onto the Microscale web site ,now I don’t know much about microscale as they are not known in the UK, but all I could find reference to UP switchers was a set with MP reporting details. Am I doing something wrong on their website.
I just search the site for the UP HO scale sets appropriate for locos and then look at the pics to see if they match what I need. The description helps too. Sometimes I have used two sets to get the right markings. Starting with photos of the prototype in the time period you model makes it easier. Don’t forget to get the number board set which has black background for the number boards. This would be an additional set used for various road names. So, you may need up to 3 sets, not sure. But they are usually good for more than 1 or 2 locos.
Also, you might encounter two decal sets, one for the as delivered black scheme and the later, Armour Yellow with road of the Streamliners logo.

I have tried everthing to try and find the decals for the UP , it is the worst website I have ever come across. I can only find the decals MP reporting no.s and early (black)livery nos can somebody give me the actual microscale number.
Here is the weblink to the UP decals. You will need to compare the associated pictures of the decals with the pictures of your prototype. You can’t count on descriptions alone, although they can help. Again many times I have to combine sets.
This link may require copying and pasting into browser. Note that there are multiple sizes such as N and HO scale, make sure you order the correct one. I sometimes use N scale decal sheets for HO vehicles, etc. Another example of why you need the prototype pics, etc is that the Microscale DDA40X set is not appropriate for 6936 in 2010. But is is appropriate for 1970s time frame.

The H-15-44 is a bit of an oddball in the UP fleet. The best set to start with would be Microscale 87-35, Union Pacific Diesels Including Gas Turbine (1947-1980) which includes cab side slogans (different each side) as well as cab numbers, and 8",10" and 11" lettering for the hood. You will also need the 91105 set for red striping on the hood and frame sills – some stock of this is labeled 87-110-5.
I have a painting diagram (355 ST4967, dated 8/9/47) for the H 20-44 that calls for 11" ‘Union Pacific’ lettering on the long hood. Assuming the long hood is the front of the locomotive, ‘Road of the Streamliner’ goes on the right cab side and ‘Serves All the West’ goes on the left. There is a ‘D.S. 1360’ number below the UP lettering on the long hood, an automatic shutter warning panel over the radiator shutters, and ‘U.P.’ to the left of the headlight front and back with ‘D.S. 1360’ to the right, all in 4" letters. This would be the as-delivered scheme.
The top 3" red stripes to separate the Harbor Mist Grey top and the Armour Yellow sides are just below the break in curve of the hood and cab. The frame sill stripes are 4 3/4".

Found some other photos. Cinthia Priest’s “The Union Pacific Diesel” covers the H-15-44 on pp. 78 and 79. Numbers were 1325 through 1329. The DS prefix was dropped in 1953 or so.
As I replied in your other topic:
“Union Pacific FM switchers”
"In my 2002 Microscale catalog, it shows set #35 with “route of the streamliners”; but it appears that Microscale has redesigned the set. Champion Decal probably had it, also; but they’ve just gone out of business. Perhaps you could write to Microscale to inquire when they might be producing another version the “route of the streamliners” decals. It seems strange that they would drop it from their line without plans for re-issue.
As an also-UP modeler, I appreciate your problem; and I hope that it is cleared up in the near future."
So, from the not-totally-clear picture on Microscale’s site, it looks like the necessary “route of the streamliners” is now missing from the set. And I couldn’t find it in another set. If it is indeed elsewhere, I do hope someone will pipe up.
Ed
THANK YOU
Thanks for pointing out that MS managed to mess up that set; I would probably have ordered one without looking at the update.
Can’t imagine why they would leave SATW and ROTS cab slogans off a sheet for early yellow diesels.I’m not aware of any other source of those.
Searching the site, the sheet of red stripes also seems to have gone missing, those these can be pieced together from other sets.
In my 2002 catalog, set #35 was titled “U. P. FREIGHT DIESELS No. 1 w/TURBINE”.
The set is currently titled “Union Pacific Turbines and Freight Cab Units Circa 1950-1970-Revised”.
The latter title does not imply that it includes the slogans, the former does.
I hope that Microscale will get around to doing an early UP hood and switcher set soonish. Don’t you?
Ed
Hi to all following this thread, the latest update is this. I emailed Microscale asking about the situation regarding UP switcher decals, I have received an response stating they have passed the matter to “Paul P”. I await further developements but as soon as I know anything I will post the results. Again thanks for all the help that has been given so far Regards Brian
Hi all you UP modellers I received a reply from Chris Palomerez at Microscale . His reply was that Microscale were reaseasing 87-36 early in 2011 that would contain “serves all the west” and “route of the streamliners” for UP switchers, I hope this meets with your approval it certainly meet mine.
It will be good news when a revised UP road-switcher set appears. I have found Chris P. to be very responsive to questions and receptive to accurate documentation.
Oh yes, it definitely does. Thanks for doing the follow up work!
