Did the Union Pacific ever use a E8, E9 ABBA set-up for their passenger or freight operations?
I don’t think E8/9s were ever used in freight service, but yes for passenger. They could be found in A-A sets, A-B-A sets, A-B-B sets, A-B-B-A sets, A-B-B-B sets and more.
Immediately after Amtrak was started,UP used E8/9s in freight service,but not in ABBA sets. They were broken up and used as individual units.
In AB sets? In general did RR’s have a storage of available loco after Amtrak started are did they lease the stuff in storage?
Not in sets,as individual units.I saw one train pulled by 4 U boats and an E9B.
Southern Pacific sold its F units to Amtrak,who later leased them back to SP.
