hello everyone, does anyone know if the UP had any low nose GP9’s? if so, where could i find a picture of one? any help is appreciated. thank you![:)]
The original GP9’s were all high hood and were puchased between 1954 to 1957 for the last group. They owned 324 all total including the B units. The GP9’s on the UP ran low hood forward compared to the GP7’s running long hood forward on the UP.
The first low nose units were the SD24’s in 1958 and they owned one hight nose SD24 that was the demostrator.
I cannot speak of any other units that they might have received with mergers, but they did not buy any GP9’s with the low nose. Vol One UP Dieselizations to 1959
thank you for the information bangert1, that is what i was wondering. now i can go ahead and add the high nose to my Proto 2000 GP9 before i got too far. im gonna do UP #157, the one with the big one piece snow plow. thanks again![:)]
You might be interested in knowing the 134, 149, 151, 168, and the 162 among others all had large plows from the pictures I have in my book. 179 had a odd plow that I cannot descibe, but it would be fun to model it also.
After 1980, which is not my era, the GP9’s received black numbers on the cab and a medium sized shield in front. I am not sure how many received this type of lettering, but it is interesting also, since it is different and show up great.
thanks once again bangert1, this is very useful information. on the snow plow units, does your book show what color the plows were? thanks again![:)]
Don’t forget that all of the above answers are gonna cost you an extra $5…
It is an all color book and they are grey.
Should be a great model.
thanks once again bangert1, i was hopeing you would say that. i could post some pictures of it if i knew how. thanks again![:D]
