Have we come a long way from the days when my dad was an operator, then a dispatcher on the SI, back in the 50s and 60s. 2 mainline trains per day plus a handful of switching locals. There’s still the resonant sounds of RS3s and 1915 vintage cabooses, the old switching and interchange yard in Spokane - in my heart at least. And lest we forget, the clacking of the telegraph long before radio became the norm.
Dad helped build the SI… so glad he’s still around to see his pension checks from the UP!
