Union Pacific merger paint scheme - who knows the

Hey everybody,

I’m looking for a Union Pacific expert out there who knows a color mixture for the covered hoppers painted after the MP, MKT, and CNW mergers. These hoppers were all painted the same bluish gray paint and all had UP style lettering but were lettered for their previous owners. In other words, I saw many cars over the years that looked like UP cars but had CNW, MKT, or MP reporting marks. Does anyone have a mixture down for these cars using either Testors Model Master colors or Floquil Railroad colors? I prefer Floquil colors, but Model Master makes a whole gang of different shades of gray and this might provide a better starting point. I don’t have any photos and the only railroad I live within 100 miles of is the Durango & Silverton. I have eight cars that need painting and I think this would make a fun project.

Athearn released a 12 car set of the union pacific hoppers you are talking about a while ago. you might be able to track one of these down and try to match the paint. or you could try contacting athearn and see if they can tell you how to match the paint they used.

I found out that Scalecoat has a color called UP hopper gray. Does anyone know if this matches the color I’m looking for?
