If only they could be convinced to restore the last cab forward to operating condition…
Way to go UP!! Wonder if there are any 4-12-2’s around?
count on several years before it is back online just from some of the other steam engines that have been brought back. I saw 3985 running VERY impressive! I have a big boy in N scale Can’t wait for this on to be resurrected.
THANK YOU UNION PACIFIC
As a Big Boy enthusiast I hope I am able to see this Loco once it is operation. Is there any details as to how long the restoration program will take and the expected cost. I would travel from Australia to see the Big Boy in action
It would be great to have one of these back in steam. It is a shame that more locos, at least one of each type, could not be kept as living history. This includes the diesel and electric locomotives that have run the rails over the years.
Both UP and the R&LHS should be commended in their commitment to this task.
It’s about time someone beside myself was thinking of it : Hello Steamtown are you listening ?
Union Pacific is a classy company for keeping their heritage alive. Sure wish the BNSF was as heritage minded.
Now maybe the BNSF can step up to the plate and take a look at restoring the CB&Q 05b at the Railroad museum at Golden, Colorado…
Word on 14th and Dodge Streets in Omaha has it that the goal is to have 4014 restored and running in time for the Golden Spike’s 150th Anniversary in May 2019. No word as to if it will be converted to be an oil burner, but I would suspect that it would be in order to run it system-wide or between Ogden and Council Bluffs; otherwise between Laramie and Cheyenne would be a safe bet.
Great news!!!
AWESOME
Great news! At almost the same time, UP Big Boy 4018 will travel to it’s new home the first week end of August from Dallas to Frisco, TX. It’s been painted and ready to roll where it can be seen much better at Frisco, TX and their 40 piece railroad collection…
I was hoping I would still be alive when someone decided to restore one of these.
Great News! A member of the Historical Society told me that the goal for restoration is the 150th anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railway…that would be May 10, 2019.
Awesome news, would certainly endeavour to visit the USA to see this machine in operation.
Greetings from Cape Town.
I would love to see a “Yellowstone” steam locomotive restored. There are several in MN and it was even more powerful then the Big Boys.
This is fantastic news. Steam returns, finally. The Big Boys are coming back and so will other behemoths of the rails. Yes, there is a steam revival happening. Thanks Union Pacific.
A Big Boy and Challanger meet on Sherman Hill would be the greatest thrill to watch, photograph and record!
All I can say is WOW.
