would it be prototypical to have the badge and wings on the nose of a UP sd40-2 insted of having the plain badge? thanks

The wings were only on the passenger E units and the F units, all the SD40, SD40-2 & SD40-2T has the shield only. Last year UP started to apply it to the newer MACs. SD40s put out to pasture in yard service now have a set of red and white warning stripes on the front and rear, akin to the old Sante Fe and SP zebra stripes. Yard units may also have a Y in front of their unit number, to denote a unit that shares the same number with a active road unit, ie Y3985 is a SD 40-2 yard switcher/transfer locomotive, and UP3985 is a SD90 road locomotive. (not real numbers) Guessing you road the Daylight in 98?
Really good looking locomotive, McCormick put a lot of love in that machine.

I’m not positive on an actual SD40-2 but the UP is applying the winged logo on some de-turbocharged SD40-2s. the UP is calling them SD38-2s. They are used in hump service and are numbered in the UPY 800’s. They also have the lightning stripe on the sides. Hope it helps a little.
