Union Pacific Railroad.

Hi everyone.
The Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District wants to build a very large Dam for flood control in Omaha. The new dam will be built just north of State Hiway 36 in Douglas County. The new Dam will create a huge lake all the way north to Kennard,Nebraska. Now here is where the fun begines. According to the proposed maps. A large portion (well not realy) of US30 and the UP Blair line will have to be somehow eather raised or re-located. I have no idea how this will play out. Ill let you deside. But I will post the link and help you get to where I am talking about. You must have Adobe reader on your computer. Ok. It’s… http://www.papionrd.org
Click>>Flood control reservoirs. Scroll down until you see “Papillion creek watershed” and click on:Click here. Last thing. Click on “Dam site 3”. If this dam is built. How will the UP work around this new lake? And will someone help pay the UP the money to relocate thier line? Any thoughts? Thanks.

Why not triple track from Mo. Valley to Fremont via Blair? The taxpayer would get to pick up the tab for this work but Council Bluffs would sure like to eliminate so many trains trying up the streets. It would sure be a nice bridge over the Missouri at Blair.

UP won’t ever do that. I’ve heard so many rumors about the UP adding a second Track through Blair for over 5 years now. Still nothing. I think it’s because of the hills. You never know.

I’m pretty sure the UP will have to be compensated, or made whole, for whatever roadbed is affected by these plans–it’s probably included in the cost (if it isn’t, it should be). From the map, it doesn’t look like Kennard is going to be affected too much. I’m not familiar with how the railroad runs there, so it’s hard to say what they’ll do.
