I give up. What does UTC stand for? Did I miss something?

UTC = University Transportation Center. It’s in the first sentence of the article.

Too bad their railroad engineering program really took off after I graduated…

First sentence, University Transportation Center.

@ William Hays - It’s “University Transportation Center,” but it would have been helpful to insert “(UTC)” after the first mention in line 3. U of IL has a good track record (sorry) in rail tech. I’m intrigued by the proposed focus on improving freight/passenger corridors. How come back in the steam-diesel transition era IC could easily operate passenger trains at 100 mph at the same time a local turn was switching lineside industries on both sides of the main? Lower traffic density, I’m sure, but it seems we have to get back to where we were in many ways before moving ahead again.

UTC stands for “University Transportation Center”.

@ William D. Hays - it’s in the first paragraph: “University Transportation Center”.
