I have a hard question today. On the cover of Trains Magazine Issue October 2000 is a front view of a white SD with yellow and red stripes. Which railroad has this engine in service? It look like a deseret western engine, but i´m not sure.
These SD40-2 locos belong to the Escalante-Western railroad as described in the Trains article. I assume there are at least six units, since two trains are shown, with WFA-1 and WFA-2 leading (unless of course, it’s the same rake from opposite ends!). These units are not in my EMD list and not in the 2000 rosters list.
Perhaps the Escalante-Western and Deseret Western are owned by the same coal company.
I just found out that the Escalante-Western railroad is operated by Western Fuels Co. And, also the Deseret Wester RR has the Western Fuels Logo on its engines, so it lokks like they are connected…
