Unpatched SF Warbonnet And Question?

Take a look, it’s the second Warbonnet Unit #231 in this video, it’s Unpatched - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-pU81Z2s6M Not my video, but my question is, How and Why is this Warbonnet Unpatched, when the merger happened in 1995 and this is 2010 with Patched Warbonnets?

I guess if we are going to split proverbeal hairs that unit has indeed been “patched” with the orange battery box cover, but I know you’re referring to unit number and other painted identification markings… Rare ???, yes indeed, but not altogether unheard of, even after all these years.

There a couple of units that seem to work ou of the Wellington, Ks. area, and seem to show up on some of the dedicated grain moves through this area.

They can be seen parked around the Wellington Yard from the parallel streets, when they are not on the road which happens at times( admittedly, it’s been a couple of months since last saw them), I’ve seen them on a couple of different occasions west of Mulvane.

I was in Phoenix last December and I saw an unpatched BN locomotive there in the green BN paint scheme, obviously a long way from home.

The second unit is number 631, not 231. AT&SF 231 was a SD75M that is now numbered BNSF 8231. There is at least one unpatched former BN unit also, I don’t recall its number.

The BN unit is SD40-2 #6908 and has been in Memphis, TN for along time used as a Trimmer engine at BNSF’s TN Yard. Here is a photo i got of the unit.
