The answer to your question is in the link you provided

Good pictures of the only one ever built

Yes, I know. I have been reading the site for the past couple hours. The question was for readers.

This reader’s answer: “A quadruplex is the silliest idea that the Baldwin Locomotive Works ever spawned - the culmination of a bunch of not-too-swifties that terminated with the Triplex.”

More accurately, it was a locomotive where one (poorly-designed) boiler was expected to provide steam to four sets of drivers. Happily, no railroad was ever dumb enough to order one.

It’s an interesting sit, but the author starts out assuming that all unorthodox designs were suspect and bound to fail, when that is not always the case. A number of the locomotives featured had very long and successful careers. Others were only intended as experiments or trials. So I’d take this sites comments with a grain of salt.

Cheers,

Mark.

That is why I posted the link with no comment. It is interesting to see the critics comments. [:)]
