They probably want to build the thing with somebody else’s (read public) money. Why would they care? Probably have fried too many brain cells to be rational either. Typical Southern California.
Maybe they’re the same developers who were building a high school astride a fault line a few years ago somewhere in Califonria and then had to abandon it after spending over a half million dollars on it. Remember that one?
Thats the Belmont Learning Center in downtown LA, which I can see from out of my periscope here in Cubeville.
Its almost done, they’ve been moving like gangbusters on it the last few months, they had to demo a small part of it that turned out to be on the faultline, which has likely been inactive for a million years, but Code is Code, can’t build public facilities on known faultlines.
It wasnt faultlines that stymied construction, but methane from the old oil wells that used to dot the hills its on back in the 20’s. During construction, a question of whether the desigend methane collection system was adequate halted construction, then surveyers discovered the faultline…well it became a huge political hot potato and any resemblence to logic was cast aside as politicians and schoolboard officials began running around like headless chickens pointing fingers…well after a couple years of this, they did manage to redesign and provide mitigation, so its back on track now, looks very different repainted and added a bunch new buildings, so it should be doen sometime next year. oh, and its currently at $400M, yeah I know, insane isnt it…
OK now …someone tell me, What tunnel between Sylar and Santa Clarita? I havent heard of anything? Is this for Metrolink? Stupid idea if it is, theres plenty of above ground alternates
Not only that, but it is several hundred miles from Sylmar to Santa Clara (which is in the San Jose area)…quite a trip underground, with or without a cup of coffee.
