Unwanted horn sounds on MTH Diesels?

My MTH CSX SD70ACe does something that I’m not sure all do, but whenever I blow the horn for more than 3-4 seconds, its has a automatic quieter long blast and a double blast. You can see what I am talking about in this video at 0:11 seconds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdMkS7I_iKY&NR=1

What I am asking is if there is anyway to turn off these extra sounds? Because it gets kinda annoying when your trying to do a LONG LONG short LONG and the first long you make messes it up.

Any imput is welcomed.

Hi Grayson,

I feel your pain, that is annoying. I have MTH locomotives that do the same thing, My AeroTrain does it, and I would have to “play” with some of the others, but I don’t think that it is the only one that does it. Wish I had an answer for You, I would like to disable that “feature” too.

My RK 4-6-0 does the same, if you hold the whistle/horn button to long when released it will pause then give you a whistle followed by two shorts. As far as I know it can not be changed, wonder if it is changable with a different PS2 sound download. [?]

So even a steam engine does it? I dont remember seeing anywhere in the manual that it is supposed to have these sounds.

My SW1500 does the thing too. After you hold the horn for a while, the horn will sound two short blasts, as if you re-set it or something. It’s always done this, yet I don’t know why. I think it’s kind of cool, actually. It almost sounds like the engineer is “saluting” to a railfan along the tracks.

I believe all MTH engines have this feature. In fact, the number of shorts blasts at the end can vary based on how long you press the whistle button. Personally, I like this feature very much, but it does prevent one from doing what you are attempting to do.

Fortunately, the newest MTH engines have a crossing grade whistle feature that plays the two long, one short and a long whistle sequence that you are trying to emulate.

Are all the sound issues on Rail King line or does this happen to their Premeir Line also?

I have a premier line 4-8-4 steam loco and have yet to discover this feature. I can hold the whistle button for five or six seconds and it just whistles, I try to do the grade crossing sequence by hand and so far all it does is sound the whistle for as long as I hold the button. I am using DCS 3.1 version.

I think the sequence you are referring to is MTH’s answer to Lionel’s variable whistle. I don’t think that you can eliminate it.
