I saw UP 1983 and UP 1996 coupled together (nose to nose) on what appeared to be the QFRNP (not the QFRNPP) today. I don’t know if they are going all the way to North Platte, but if you want to see them together this may be good time.
Eric,
Does that train go via Feather River canyon or Donner?
Dave
I I also saw this train today as it passed over the diamonds at Rochelle. This was the first time I have seen the C&NW commemerative unit and she looked really good to me. A very, very nice day with lots of other railfans at Rochelle.
I seem to recall Jim Bryant saying he has seen these trains through Reno, so I am guessing Donner. Of course, who knows if they changed it.
Alright! The C&NW consist is back together again!
hooray for the duo plus one! i’m hoping Proviso will make a quick Air Conditioner swap with the duo one day when they get the chance. i hear there are several UP crash 9s with CNW A/C’s that still have the green stripe on them
are the other 2 heritage units still in the same consist?
Yes, as a general rule it still runs the Donner route.

Has anybody seen these since then? It seems like I read somewhere that UP tries to keep the heritage units in the territory of the company they were painted for. I am curious to know if they went all the way to North Platte.
Jim,
Great shot! The broadside is one of those shots that I never get to work very well for me, but you’ve mastered it here! Fascinating shot, and another wallhanger from that trio! Man, I hope they are still running together when I’m back in Nov. & Dec.
Thanks for sharing!
