UP 3300 “United Way” SD40-2

A very recent pic of UP #3300 at Mormon Rocks, CA. According to locophotos, UP 3300 was retired in July of 2009. So UP must be moving #3300 somewhere?

The locomotive is being moved from its previous storage location of Phoenix, AZ to Denver, CO. The locomotive is officially retired, but it is tagged as Do Not Sell. A bunch of SD40T-2s are being moved to Denver to be sold at auction.

I was about to comment that the unit was in the Phoenix yard for many months …

If it’s moving to Denver to be sold in a auction, but has a sign on it that says do not sell…

Is it just going to be put into storage? Where are all of the SD70ACe heritage units? I know that UP has a BSA ES44AC out now, but are all of the EMD heritage units still in active duty?

3300 is going to storage in Denver. All the heritage locomotives are out running except the Boy Scout GE hasn’t been released back to the operating department after its display and the George H. W. Bush locomotive, 4141, is still out of service awaiting repairs.

If its not to be sold…maybe it will be preserved?

From what I’ve heard it runs/ran like garbage and is in need of serious overhaul. Maybe it’ll be gutted and stuck on display somewhere. Personally I dislike the exterior appearance…and if it runs as poorly as I’ve heard…well…

Just an update on this post for those who are interested - we went to the Phoenix yard last weekend to catch the 844 there, and while there I drove by an area that went by those deadlines and the 3300 is still there.
