UP 844 Western Heritage Excursion (RATS!)

This may be of interest to some.

We’re leaving on a road trip to the East Coast on the 22nd and going out I-40, thus the RATS.

Oh well.

Andre

Doubt it!

Mike

HUH?

Doubt what?

Andre

Andre:

She’s in Roseville today and tomorrow. Ho-hum. It would be nice if UP would allow #4449 to come down from Portland and run on her home rails, but no–we get #844 instead. Yah, like FEF’s ran out here in Northern California all the time–duh!

Tom [:-^]

Steam’s steam. Yeah it would be nice if they’d bring 4449 down here, but UP owns both the rails and 844 whereas 4449 is owned by a different organization.

Andre

Andre:

Yes, a different organization that UP won’t allow on their rails. Whenever #4449 gets to come down here to Northern California, she has to come down on BNSF, which is at least generous enough to allow her down the Highline and through their trackage rights on the Feather River Canyon to Sacto.

Oh heck, I don’t want to get into it. I’m sure that people will be crowding around 844 tomorrow in Roseville. I just won’t be one of them. Steam may be steam, but UP steam has never done a thing for me. Too bland-looking.

Tom

Too bland looking? You’ve never been in close proximity to British steam have you?[swg]

As for 4449, I prefer the GS’s hot, black, and de-skirted.

Andre

Sorry Tom, but I have to say that I like the UP steam. Course, I missed a lot of steam. That said, I do prefer the GSs to FEFs. And from a buisness class standpoint, I can see where UP would be paranoid about a foreign steamer breaking down on their track. Frusterating I admit, but hey. one other I want to see is the Partial schemes, with the painted tender and black engine. But the Daylight is beautiful none the less.
