UP and the paint can party

Well I’ll start off this thorn in the side discussion of those “heritage” SD70’s
that UP has painted so far to honor past acqusitions. I saw the photos in both Trains and CTC Board of brand new SD70ace given a special paint scheme per each railroad that was taken over(I know be polite and say merger). Funny, while we take photos at trackside of a commerative WP or MKT unit, I find it odd how a giant like UP spends money on erasing any identification of the previous railroads existence, Uncle Pete comes out to honor the railroads that were pulled into the fold. Comments?

They have tohave someway to keep pulling in the money for copyrights. By repainting one engine int a heritage unit they can say that the copyright is still in effect for that company.

UP’s biggest issue with the mergers was to create a consistent equipment numbering method and eliminate duplicates. I don’t call a red and yellow number patch spending a lot of money to erase the former owner’s id. They still look like SP engines to me.
