What year do they expect it to be ready to apply the fire? It’s a BIG job to get it ready. I expect many hours of hand fashioned parts are ahead. Hope I can be there when it rolls on its own power.
Big Then, Even Bigger Now! Thank You Union Pacific for bringing UP 4014 back.
Thanks to the UP
I’m a diesel guy, but I applaud UP for it’s plans to bring one of the Big Boy’s back to life. As for me, I’d not walk across the street to see it…but I would cross the street for a guided tour of EMD’s plant in Indiana or GE’s new operation in Fort Worth.
The W. Colton yard/shops are likely no more than 20 miles away from Pomona unless there’s some kind recerse move that will count towards the 40 mile total.
I am a PRR fan but seeing the BIG BOY back will be really great.

i will miss 4014. the grandkids loved to visit during the fair.having known this wonderful machine for many years.ihave often thought what it would be like to see her operating agin
looks like my fantasise will come true. i will be there when she moves. thanks UP
Wouldn’t it be great if somehow UP could put the Big Boy up front and push it with a diesel so that it looked like it was actually in charge again. I know that is probably not likely but it would sure look good, especially when it hits Ogden, UT and begins its move up it’s old haunts between Ogden and Cheyenne via Weber and Echo Canyons in Utah and Laramie to Cheyenne via Sherman Hill in Wyoming.
Keep up the good work. Wish Indiana could have a Big Boy to
display. They ought to make more of them. I think they are Much better than Diesels. I’m a steam fan any way.
Its great to see a company thats willing to spend this much time and money to keep a piece of history alive for future generations to enjoy. Thank you UP and all the volunteers that are making this happen. I,m looking forward to riding behind the 4014.
I have seen the BB at Steamtown, PA several times. What a machine!! I grew up with steam, had the good fortune to fire and run a few. Wish I could get out and see the BB under steam but Florida is a long way from where she will run. Do wish they could keep her coal fired though. Great work UP only you folks seem to be persistant about steam while CSX and NS waver from year to year. CSX (Chessie) used to favor steam but not in recent years at all. A shame.
I do hope there will be plenty of news releases when 4014 is rolled through Utah and Wyoming. I doubt I will ever live long enough to see her under her own steam but it would be great to at least see it rolling down the tracks. I live in Idaho but if it is known when Big Boy comes through Utah I will definitely be there. Lots and lots of news releases PLEASE.
Thanks u.p great see a big company helping to preserve
History.
I don’t know about anyone else but I’m excited. I told my wife that when it makes its move through Utah, around the Salt Lake area I don’t know when I’ll be home. I also don’t know what time of the day or night this will travel thru here. I THANK those news releases. Keep them coming…
