Where’s the UP DD40 at right now that uasually pulls the UP Office Car Special or are they not running it right now? If they still have excursions, will this train ever come to the Eastcoast like through Ohio and Pennsylvania? I ask this because I have not heard any news about this engine and I love this Engine. It’s so big and long. I want to start a huge disucussion again on this engine so maybe aomebody from the Union Pacific Railroad might read this and say “Hey maybe that’s a new idea to think about bringing this train through Ohio on it’s way to somewhere on the Eastcoast”. It’s a thought to think about. It’s never been done. Also think about the SP 4449 that came to Michigan this past summer. That’s very close to the Eastcoast and also very close to Ohio and Pennsylvania. I just wanted again to start on this topic of the mighty UNION PACIFIC DD40. It’s a thought that counts.
6936 is part of UP’s Heritage fleet and is based out of Cheyenne WY along with the 844 3985 and the E-9 set. Odds of seeing it east of Chicago put it to you this way Detroit will win the Super Bowl before you see it that far east.
So the DD40 pulls the Super Bowl Express then. I see there going to play the Super Bowl in South Florida in Febuary 2010, so does this mean this train is going to Florida? I wish it would come to Pennsylvania or Ohio where I live.
While it might wander otherwise, I’d suspect it’s usually going to stay on UP rails.
Like the 3985, it’s a big locomotive, with a long wheelbase. Not all eastern lines have the curvature to support such a beast.
As for Ed’s comment - [Foghorn Leghorn voice] - “That’s a joke, son. You’re supposed to laugh!”
There was a time when you wouldn’t see those beasties east of North Platte. Not sure that the C&NW trackage could have handled them, back in the day (no problem now!).
Wrawroacx, keep in mind that the 4449 is not a UP engine, and did not use UP trackage to come out east.
If the superbowl is in Florida then I guess the train will be pulled by NS or CSX motive power.
More than likely the E-9 set they have. Why be the only class 1 that sends a train with a Freight engine on the point.
BNSF doesn’t use anything but freight engines.
