up diesel #1410?? three fan's on top

the middle fan was much smaller than the other two.think it might have been a gp 35 although not quite sure.saw it yesterday running light on up’s mainline, just a few block’s from where i live.it’s not their today and i tried searching google and etc but can’t find any info or image’s.not sure when they were built but i guess their is not to many left.terry…

UP’s roster lists UP 1410 as a GP40-2. UPY 1410 is a MP15AC. Perhaps the middle fan just looked smaller for some reason.

thank’s eric.i might be old and losing my eyesight because of diabetes, but the middle fan was smaller in height than the other two.had a ice storm yesterday but im going to try and make it out today with my camera.thank’s for the reply.i know what i saw and this is driving me crazy not knowing exactly what loco it is.terry…

The ‘lower’ middle fan may have been an replacement fan…

Jim

When you say smaller, do you mean diameter or hieght? It is common for a locomotive to have different hieght fans due to service or rebuild - the shop forces just grab the next fan that fits off the shelf. Diameter is another matter entirely.

thank’s jrb and nigel.the fan in the middle is smaller in height.were iced up here in atchison and i can’t get out to go downtown to see if it’s still their.so will have to wait until friday or saturday.terry…(i’m sure that it is a gp40 as stated by an earlier poster…just thought it was funny because the fan’s are arranged as a gp35)
