UP Dome diner model?

Kicking around an idea inspired by the pre-announcement of MR’s next contest:

Has anyone ever made a model of the dome diner cars operated by Union Pacific? How about the demonstration car from the Train of Tomorrow?

I can’t actually use one (darn) until I get a much longer layout, but it is still fun to dream…

Train Station Products is working on a UP dome/diner in HO right now. It should be released this year. It is Walther’s # 732-871 (Train Station Products # 871). Judging from the quality of their past cars, it should be a nice car.

Or, you could use a Rivarossi dome coach w/ a Brass Car Sides UP dome/diner overlay

If I am recalling properly this article showed how to make one from an AHM dome coach and one other car.

csmith,

Thanks! This is great!

One of my armchair dream projects is to create a dinner train with interiors and lights and any other cool features I can think up (and fit in). A PA-1, a dome diner car, a lounge-observation (maybe with dome), a parlor car, a snack bar car. What else would fit the theme? Hmmm…

I just looked, and Walthers shows them in stock. I am actually kind of surprised that Train Station Products got them out so quickly, based on experience with their release, or lack there of, of the hi level lounge.

I may pick one up for the heck of it!!
