UP emissions special

UP is appearently running a train around its system to showcase its new low emissions locomotives. It has UP 7606, UP 7605 (still in GE paint), UPY 2701, UPY 1378, and UP 2368, followed by two power cars and a baggage car (or vice versa), and four shiny passenger cars, I remember the City of San Francisco and City of Portland.

Appearently UP 2368 is the first road locomotive fitted with a catalytic oxidizer, if I remember correctly.

I just realized that the title looks like something that may appear on “Headlines” on “The Tonight Show.”

Well, I’m all for the Union Pacific doing everything it can to phase in the new, cleaner engines. Some of the “dirty diesels” I see fuming their way through Rochelle, IL, make me think that “UP” must stand for “Unacceptably Polluting.” [:(!] - a.s.

The ironic thing is that I could still see a plume of exhaust coming from the GEs.
